Sports physiotherapy

Treating sports injuries, building load capacity and supporting your return to sport — from the acute phase to return to play.

Who is it for?

Sports physiotherapy at Therakura — knee treatment

Treatment approach

We start by analysing not only the injured structure, but also movement patterns, load capacity, strength, mobility, coordination and possible contributing factors. On this basis, we develop a sport-specific therapy plan.

Depending on the findings, we combine manual and joint-specific treatment techniques, active mobilisation and targeted load progression, strength, stability and coordination training, proprioceptive and reactive training, and sport-specific exercises — complemented by advice on load management, recovery and prevention. Taping or flossing may be added where therapeutically appropriate and offered by your treating therapist. Treatment continues right through to a gradual return to training and competition. We also offer dry needling as a stand-alone additional service that can be booked separately.

Our aim is not just your return to sport, but restoring your load capacity as safely and lastingly as possible. If you have severe or worsening pain, numbness or signs of paralysis, please see a doctor first.

Who provides the treatment?

Giuseppina Sagona — sports physiotherapist and competitive judoka. Carine Ludes — physiotherapist and former competitive athlete. Lisa Wengler — physiotherapist and former competitive athlete. Ken Roeser — sports physiotherapist certified by the DOSB (German Olympic Sports Confederation) and osteopath, offering sports osteopathy as complementary support for athletes. Other therapists may be involved depending on the condition, their qualifications and the location.

Duration & fees

Sports physiotherapy is generally provided as part of regular physiotherapy treatment — the usual session lengths and CNS rates apply. Purely preventive, training or performance services without a medical indication are kept clearly separate and are listed as self-pay services.

Reimbursement: Reimbursable by the CNS as regular physiotherapy with a medical prescription; purely preventive and performance services are self-pay services (not reimbursed by the CNS). All details & insurer links →

Frequently asked questions

Is sports physiotherapy only for competitive athletes?

No. We treat recreational and club athletes as well as competitive athletes and people who want to get active again after a break.

Do I need a medical prescription?

A medical prescription is required for the costs to be covered by the CNS. Treatment as a self-paying patient is also possible without a CNS prescription.

When should I start therapy after a sports injury?

That depends on the type and severity of the injury. After a medical assessment, physiotherapy can often start early and be adapted to the relevant healing phase.

Do you also treat after surgery?

Yes. We support rehabilitation after orthopaedic and sports medicine procedures and adapt load progression to your doctor’s instructions and how your healing is progressing.

When can I train or compete again?

Returning to sport does not depend solely on a fixed timeframe. What matters includes mobility, strength, control, load capacity and being able to perform sport-specific movements safely.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Please bring any medical reports, imaging, surgical reports and your prescription. Sportswear and, if applicable, the sports shoes you use can be helpful for a functional examination.

Can sports physiotherapy prevent re-injury?

By analysing possible risk factors, building load in a targeted way and doing exercises tailored to this, the risk of recurring problems can be reduced. However, complete freedom from injury cannot be guaranteed.
